Re: 260 Rem Load Recipeies?

My 260 has a .188 freebore

I am using
130bergers
45.5H4350
CCI benchrest primers
Remington 260 brass sorted, prepped and annealed

2940fps with ES 4fps. .146" group posted previously.

The interesting thing is my rifle is built with HS 308 Bottom metal. I am jumping those bergers a long ways! Almost had myself convinced to buy Nate's bottom metal that is 100/1000 longer. This build was originally going to be a dasher but I changed in midbuild. That is why we decided on the shorter bottom metal.

bilpelt, I took your advise and switched my BM from Badger to Nate's for my 260 build. I also ask Nate if instead of shooting 140 SMK's that maybe I should also consider the 130 Bergers. Your group is amazing!

Re: 260 Rem Load Recipeies?

I am thinking I am just lucky, the stars were all shining down on us. Richard had his new 6dasher(all he bought was rings and trigger he won everything else) with a Bat action and a 23.5" barrel(rechambered a shot out accurate barrel, wanted to try it). It shot .118 with the load he uses in his Nesika dasher(present comp. rifle). He also was getting just over 3000fps out of a 23.5" barrel(unbelievable!). Everything we touched just worked out. Well until he got down to SD for the shoot. He ended up using his Bat and galled the lugs. Went from a 2-3" group at 600 to 5". Brought out his Nesika at the soonest possible time to try to catchup. Well ended up with three firsts a couple seconds and a fifth. I haven't heard how he did on sunday.

I think whatever you feed it, it is going to shoot. I would however get the lapua 260 brass. I spent alot of time on my brass prep.

Re: 260 Rem Load Recipeies?

I called Savage CS, for their 260 Rem they use Federal ammo with 120gr hunting ballistic tips, that's what my rifle designed to shoot. Right now I'm waiting for throating job on its chamber, meanwhile I'm not loading anything for 260.

Re: 260 Rem Load Recipeies?

I know this thread is almost a year old, but I'm reading everything I can about the .260 and reloading for it. I have a dinky little Model Seven, factory tube, just had the action bedded and the trigger worked. I found a load I'm very happy with for hunting and it's as accurate as I think anything ever will be from this walking around rifle, but I'm keeping my eyes open for other loads and bullets to try. I'm new to reloading and enjoy the tinkering.

Are any of you using RL-22? 49.3 gr pushed a 129 gr SST out of my 20" tube at 2,897 avg for 3 rounds with an ES of about 15, I think SD was 8.

I have a pound of H4350 to try with some SMKs for S&Gs, but I was thinking about trying it with the SST. I doubt I'll beat the RL-22 for accuracy or velocity, but I'm just curious.

There is no way factory barrels can group that well.
My factory 20" tube put 3 into 0.174" on Sunday.
