257 Weatherby with 80 TTSX loads
Looking at running these 80 TTSX in my 257. Anyone loaded these yet and if so, what powders would be recommended? I have RL19, RL22, RL25, H1000, H4831 all on shelf now. Hoping to hit 3850 to 3900 out of a 26" tube. Thank you

3850 was pretty easy in my .257 Wby, but my best accuracy came with 71gr 7828 and the bullet seated pretty short, 3.130" OAL. This load chronoed at a hair over 3700 and averaged just over .5" at 100 yards. Killed my largest whitetail, my 1st pronghorn and a big boar with it. Worked great.

Very nice. I have some 7828 also. Did you get an exit on that boar and what was your distance? Thank you

Re: 257 Weatherby with 80 TTSX loads
Got an exit on the boar (125 yards) and the pronghorn (277 yards), but not the whitetail (100 yards), which I shot square in the chest as he faced me dead on.
FWIW, my rifle preferred 7828 with every bullet I tried.

Re: 257 Weatherby with 80 TTSX loads
I reload the 80, 100, and 115 TSX all with good results. I also bought a box of factory loaded 80 TSX from Weatherby, and to my surprise they shot .80" with a MV of 3963 fps. For reloading the 80 TTSX, I use Fed. 215 and load 75 gr. of RL22. OAL is 3.130". Average group is .75 with a MV of 3845 fps. No pressure signs at all. I would just shoot the factory load but the $70 price tag is a bit much. That's not including the shipping. I'm going to bump the above load by .5 gr. and see if I can come close to an even 3900 fps. Right now I'm still working on 100 TTSX load. IMR4831 is showing a lot of promise.

All I shoot in mine are 100 ttsx's at 3765 fps with magpro powder.

Re: 257 Weatherby with 80 TTSX loads
You know, Mag Pro is the only powder I have been wanting to try but have not yet. The 100 TTSX is my favorite bullet, and my goal is to get this bullet to 3650+ and shooting .5. I'm real close, but not quite there yet. I guess I'll just have to order some Mag Pro tonite. How many grains are you loading to get that much velocity? I'm shooting a Blaser R93 with a barrel length right at 25.75". I haven't had a load yet to show any pressure. RL19 and RL22 drove me nuts, so maybe Mag Pro will shine with a 100 TTSX.
