243 OCW test using H4350 Need opinions

Ok first off this is the first OCW type test I have ever done and this is the first day I have ever shot this rifle. Max load for 243 with H4350 is 37gr. That is where I started considering I have read several posts and opinions on going up to 42gr with H4350 with no signs of pressure. I started with the 37 and worked my way up to 41.5 in .5gr increments. All loads were set at 2.78 OAL. Something happened to the 37 and 37.5 loads. They were really spread out and I couldnt find all the rounds. All loads showed slight ejector marks and bolt lift gradually increased but not engough to cause me to stop. I fired 5rds from each load. I did not have a crono to test velocity but I will soon. I am thinnking that I should go with the 40gr load. Any opinions or suggestions are welcome.

What bullet and primer did you use? If it were me, I would shoot the 40gr load on at least two more occasions before deciding it was the best. Could be you just got lucky.

Sry that might be a vital part. I am loading hornady 105gr bthp using cci br primers.

Nothing wrong with that combo. Sierra says 39.6gr of H4350 with their 107gr Matchking BTHP so you're probably right where you need to be. Like I said before, send some more down range to confirm the load.

So I shouldn't be worried about slight ejection marks right?

If you are using the new amp jacket 105 vlds seat them about .010" off the lands then somewhere around 42grns will be on par, if not try 43grns Imr 4350 or 47grns H4831sc, my guess from all the strays is its mainly a seating depth and neck tension issue judging from some vertical stringing. 2.78" oal is fine for a 95grn nbt but not a vld. Also I hope you have close to a 9 twist or faster.

It is a 9 1/4 twist and my goal is to push them fast enough(3000) to stabilize them at distance.
