remingtonman_25_06,
This is interesting! Here is a comparison of both bullets the 220 SMK and 240 SMK. Almost not real decernible difference out to 1500 yards!

Re: 240g SMK in a 300 RUM?
The wind is different maybe 2-3 inches, in favor of one or the other. Cant remember, but I dont think thats anything to worry about. No one can judge the wind within 2-3 inches at that distance anyways. You would think the bigger heavier would buck the wind much better then that, but it really doesn't. I have done the comparisons and looked at them to know that its only a couple inches between the 2 bullets at 1000 yards. Dont know what it is at 1500 yards. THose 2 bullets are very close ballistically to each other. I guess the only way to see what one you want to shoot is to let your rifle decide which one it likes better.

Re: 240g SMK in a 300 RUM?
These are what I get, 5 inches of wind in favor of the 240. These BC's don't line up with anybody elses but it works for my program and drop charts.
Each drop in bullet weight, decreases MOA needed and energy and gives a little more error to the wind. Unless ya'll stop messing around and buy a nice WEATHERBY Then everything just gets easier.

Re: 240g SMK in a 300 RUM?
I've looked @ this before. Just kinda pokin' @ ya for leavin' out the most important factor.
I'd like to add that I looked @ this after I found a load w/the 240 that shoots one ragged hole. I really wish I had gone w/the 220 over the 240 for cost and availability. Hopefully the 210 wildcats I have coming will be THE ANSWER.
We'll see!!!!
