175 SMK 1-12 twist

Is any one shooting 175 SMK out of a 1-12 twist? I have factory 700 VS That shoots the 168'S good but was thinking about doing some 1000yd shooting. How fast do I need to shoot them and whats a good load to start with.

We are shooting the 208 Amax out of a 1-12 twist with great results.

what caliber are you shooting the 208 out of, mine like's the 175's better than the 168's and the 178 a-maxs even better, also what speed are you getting with the208's, I am shooting the 178's at 2740 and they shoot great.

I've used 175gr Mk's in a 1-12 twist before... they seem to shoot just fine from a longer barrel rifle {.308 Win}.. say 26" plus. I shoot a 27.5" inch in 1-11 right now using the 175gr Mk's they work great. For shorter barrel rifles, I like the 1-10 twist in fact I like the 1-10 twist Polygonal'..., from Pac Nor.
The load that works best for me is in .308 Win; 175gr. Mk, Federal 210M primer, Lapua brass, {43.5grs} RL-15'..., vel's 2650 fps with very low SD's.

The 208s are comming out of a 26in 308WIN. Shooting RL-17 we are getting 2600-2675. The load that we are using is giving us 2630fps.

How'd you come up with those vel's on the 208gr. bullet... man that sure seems kinda high??

RL-17 works great with the heavy bullets. There are people actually getting over 2700 with the 208s. We workded up to 2700fps but the the acuracy started to get worse. The COAL is just under 3.000in. Here is a good read on this subject.
