Re: 155 berger vld for .308

using .308 win with 1:12 twist barrel
155 gr Nosler Custom Competition loaded with 44 gr IMR4064 average 0.38" 5 shot groups at 100 yards.

168 gr Nosler Custom Competition loaded with 42.5 gr RE-15 average 0.35" 5 shot groups at 100 yards and 2.8" 3 shot groups at 500 yards

I had no luck with Varget in .308 averaged 0.67" on 100 yards, but I is very consistent in .223 averaged 0.28", I also tried RE-17 couldn't get MOA out of it.

Re: 155 berger vld for .308

Thanks for that info I have 4064 and some IMR 4320 is coming. I have had problems finding reloadig data for 22-250 in the higher grain bullets ie: 75 and 80. But everybody has or once had a .308 so information comes in freely if you know what i mean. I loaded up the 22-250 with 36.5 gr of IMR 4007 and it seemed to perform well at 100 and 200 yards. I am going to try some of the seating tricks berger outlined and see how the 155 vld groups at 300 yards.
Thanks again for your response!

I use the Berger 150 gr. Match Grades in my .308 over 43 grs. of IMR-4320. I set the bullet at .006 off the lands and get 5/8" groups at 200 yds. This is out of a Savage Model 12 with 24" factory barrel.

Thanks for the info every bit of info helps. I called Berger Tech service and recieved a list of loads by email for just about every bullet made by Berger. It appears the Ramshot Hunter might be a good choice, it has a slow burn rate and the velocity is really good at over 3000 feet per second at max load with 175 grain VLD. The IMR 4320 had really good standard deveations in the single digits between 7 and 9 but the velocity was low and that powder is dirty.

I am trying all these different loads because I joined a shooting range with 1000 yard range. You must qualify to shoot on the range by shooting at 300, 600, 900, and 1000 yards demonstrating ability to dope your scope to hit the berm behind the target. Coming up short for them is a no no and going over the berm, well I don't know how they would react to that, but it wouldn't be good!

There was an article about seating the 155 vld from .010 jam to a whopping .120 jump. Good luck finding your load. I will let you know how things are progressing with mine.
I'm using 47gr Varget and getting 1/4 minute groups. No signs of pressure. 26" bbl I seat out near the lands.

I also use Berger 168 gr. Match bullets over 43.6 grs. of IMR-4320 set .003 off the lands. These group better then the 150's. Group size is just under 1/2 at 200 yds. and my speeds are right around 2750 to 2777 with no pressure signs yet. They are also shoot from a different Model 12 Savage with 24" barrel.
