Back in 2002 I wanted a 300 RUM and after I debated it I went with a Remtington BDL. I regret that to this day because that rifle never shot worth a darn. If I'd had bought a Savage I might still have it.
My only suggestion with that caliber is to get a premium recoil pad, a lead sled, and then a past recoil pad for shooting offhand. Being a tough guy and taking the recoil is great until you need shoulder surgery.
Some day I'd like to get another 300 RUM, but that's a ways off.
