Rebarrelling a .270

Hello,
I will soon have to replace the worn out barrel on my ancient Tikka .270.
Am considering getting a 26inch barrel fitted.
Does anyone know if there is an optimal barrel length to get the most out of this calibre without making it too cumbersome to carry?[/LIST]
