R22 210 VLD's 300Rum?

Do any of you use R22 with 210 VLD's for the 300RUM? I'm under the gun and this is the only powder I have left of any amount. You all know how hard shooting supplies are to come by now. I don't have time to here back from berger but I have sent an email. I go to CO for elk next month. I can only fined factory loads in 150gr so I was forced to start reloading sooner then planed. I have not had luck with Acubond and IMR 4350. I know it may be me or the new Rem 700, but it was shooting well with the Rem shroko. So any help would be great. Thanks.

Re: R22 210 VLD's 300Rum?

Just got an email re 300RUM, 210VLD and various powders from Walt Berger. He was using Quickload apparently and gave a list of starting and max velocities for varous powders. Actually, RE22 showed the highest velocity using QL in a 26" bbl. I was asking about H-50BMG, so he tacked that on at the bottom. Good luck on your hunt! Jon

Bullet Powder Start Load Approximate Start Velocity Max Load Approximate Max Velocity Fill Ratio
210 Grain RETUMBO 85.5 2844 92.0 3035 99.2%
210 Grain RE-25 82.5 2843 88.6 3024 96.6%
210 Grain NORMA MRP 2 79.5 2676 88.2 2961 95.6%
210 Grain Ramshot Magnum 86.0 2835 90.8 2995 91.9%
210 Grain VIHT N170 87.5 2765 94.2 2984 101.6%
210 Grain H1000 85.3 2833 91.6 3038 96.5%
210 Grain H870 94.0 2880 100.6 3104 104.5%
210 Grain AA 8700 94.5 2650 105.0 3015 109.1%
210 Grain IMR 7828 SSC 80.5 2731 85.0 3022 89.7%
210 Grain RE-22 83.0 2982 87.0 3114 91.8%
210 Grain NORMA MRP 83.0 2976 86.8 3101 89.6%
210 Grain 50BMG 93.0 2730 98.0 2902 105.0%

Arrgghh!!! Just spent 10 minutes trying to arrange the data under the 'headings' (start velocity, etc.). Got it nice and neat and hit save and it did the above. I think it's still readable.

Take a look at it again. Tried to arrange it better. Odd, cause the table from Walt pastes right into the dialogue box, but when you hit 'submit reply' it gets all garbled up.

Eaglet,

Tell us your technique!

Have you tried Retumbo or H-50 BMG with the 210?

Thanks,

Jon

Re: R22 210 VLD's 300Rum?

jmden,

from day one with my two 300 RUMs, a Remington LSS and a Sendero, I have only used one powder, Retumbo, I have used two different Primers, the GM215M from Federal and the CCI 250 Mag, four kind of bullets, Barns TSX 180 gr., Berger 190, Berger 210, NAB 200 gr.

Both rifles have shot pretty good with just about any combination I throw at them. My best 3 shot 100 yards group was with TSX 180, my best 300 yards group was with Berger 210, the Nosler Accubond was mighty accurate at all ranges.

That's all my secrets... I turned the necks on the Remington Brass and did not on my Nosler brass.

My final choice for long range in my Sendero is 93.0 grains of Retumbo with 210 Berger, Nosler brass, CCI 250, MV = 3023 ft/sec.

Hodgdon designed the Retumbo with the RUM in their minds, I'd bet, and they've
done a great job.
