Re: need starter rifle

Being a traditional fan I realy hate saying this, but probably something stainless.
Having hunted in your part of the world a few times, I almost didnt want to go outside with my rifles anymore for fear of flooding the bbl.

Rem and Savage are both reputable and offer stainless models, but again Im a diehard oldschool guy who loves Winchesters. I here they have the new one(F.N. made) with the M.O.A. trigger in a stainless model 70. I belive Ruger has a nice one also. Good Luck, and let us know what you decide.

winmag yeah it rains alot over her last year during elk season with all the rain and winds hitting 100mph gust it get flat nasty that why i was kinda thinking the rem 700 XCR but didnt know anyone with one or how they shoot out to say 700yards or so after i get used to the rifle and can make that shot all the time

Re: need starter rifle

Normally the 180 has difficulty shooting with the factory twists so do not be surprised if it does not shoot well.

The Tikkas, and Savages would be my first choices and in stainless. 7mm Rem mag if you want a 7 or the 300 WSM with the 168-180s also.

i have 3 7mm and 2 300 win mag. 700 yards is a ways for elk and bear. i would choose the 300 . they are real easy to get an accurate load for too. a remington sako or tikka

Re: need starter rifle

Take a look at the NEW Winchester Model-70, Coyote Light! Stainless fluted heavy bbl, Bell and Carlson aluminum bedded stock, with vents up front. Thats one sweet rig! I dont know if they offer it in the 7mag, but they offer it for sure in the 300Win. And the 270/300/325 shortmags. I ''NEED'' one! And from what I already told you Im not a fan of stainless, but this one might change my mind.............Yep..........I need one. hehehehe
