Help deciding. 300 WSM or SAUM or 7WSM

So i just ordered a short action with a mag bolt face. I have done some reading on people loving the 7wsm and 300wsm. But why no love for the saums? Ive wanted a 300 saum for a while but want to push the 210 and 230 bergers. This is going to be my first full custom build so i want it to be a long range hunting and plinking gun.
Probably going to go with a manners t5 stock and was also going to ask if anyone knows if their mini chassis will accept wsm mags? Thanks guys!

Most folks choose the WSM because they're a bit bigger. Winchesters short action is a bit longer than Remingtons. I build the WSM's on long actions.

For a short action, the RSAUM's are the way to go. The mini chasis will work with iether.

Bingo, Well stated Grit..... I also agree on the RSAUM if you intend to mag feed. I'm in the build process with a SA Mag BF (6.5WSM), but i'm running single shot so OAL is not as critical. I was just playing with Manners Mini-Chassis two days ago at my 'smiths shop.... interesting idea, but IIRC OAL is limited to AI length? so 2.800 ish.... not enough IMHO. The Seekins WSM DBM will go to 3.100, which is darn near perfect for mag feeding & long bullets.

Keep in mind, the rumor mill is saying Lapua may start manufacturing 7RSAUM brass..... That in itself could push one towards the RSAUMs (in any cal)

I just received my Manners MCS T-5, non inletted one color... 16 freaking weeks.... not impressed with the overall quality for that much wait.

Good luck on your build... & keep us posted.

7WSM WOULD BE MY CHOICE ....LESS RECOIL ...AND I HAVE ONE AND WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING . SHOT A 175 class ALASKA\YUKON MOOSE AT 545 YRDS WICKED GROUPS WITH MY 175 GRAND SLAMS -MY 360 ELK THE YEAR BEFORE 515-535 YRDS 154 grn interbonds BULLETS ALL STUCK ON THE FAR SIDE OF THE HIDE ! AMAZING PENETRATION ! AS A HUNTING CAL =ACCURATE -PENATRATION -LOW RECOIL-EXCELLENT BC'S .....JUST MY OPINION !

Bigger cartridges kill big stuff better/farther.

Smaller is more fun and cost effective to shoot.

Either one will get the job done.

What other rifles are you currently running? If you've already got something close to 7 or 300 wsm / saum the other might help fill a gap. I've got a 300 wsm and love it, I thought about rebarrelling to 7, but I've also got a 264. So, for me, the 300 makes sense when I've got the 264. Also, no matter what anyone says, a guy can't have too many rifles!

Anyone know how much case capacity will be lost on a WSM in a short action?
