Re: Good hunting scope?

I have invested a lot of money buying new scopes, and for the most part that is a thing of the past for me. I have started buying used scopes in good condition. the last 2 I bought were Leupold VX-III LR 4.5-14x40mm scopes. One has a B&C Reticle the other has a target turret for elevation. I spent $500 on each of them. It is about the best buy out there in my opinion and you have a really nice scope for minimal money. buying a $300 scope is a waste of money in my opinion, because you wont buy it just once. $600 will get you a very good used scope if you shop around

That makes a lot of sense when you can do as you say and have a good name brand that is like new!

Re: Good hunting scope?

I use the bushnell elite 4200 6-24x50 on my 338 edge. Great scope at $500-600. 800+ rounds with no fits or problems and great glass. The vortex viper, the swfa ss scopes, almost enough for a sightron SIII or vortex pst. Lots of good scopes for $600ish You just need to research carefully. There are great scopes in that price range and there are crap scopes in every price range.

I have a $69 Centerpoint on my 7mm RM right now. Has been on other guns and a lot of rounds, hasn't fallen apart yet. Been hitting out to 900 with it. Crappy glass but hey, it'll do till I get my Vortex hs lr 4x16 $550.

I wouldn't discount the Simmons. I have 4 of them on my .22 and all my kids .22's. Thought about putting them on a center fire and wouldn't hesitate but we use them too much on the .22's.. They have excellent glass for the price, better than a prostaff with half the features and bigger price tag.

Whatever, but I find it hard to equate one on a 22 compared to a 7 Rum!!!

I think you missed the part where I said the cheapest scope I own is on my 7mm rem mag right now. You have inspired me to take one of my Simmons scopes off a .22 and try it on the 7 though.
