Re: best tac scope <$300

Nokon makes some pretty good scopes for less than you'd expect.
Just don't buy an Osprey International. I bought one at a gunshow and parts started to fall off of it. They won't give your money back so they just keep sending you POS scopes until you give up.

Try the Leapers accushot. I have a couple for shooting squirrels and they are really clear for the money. Cheaper than dirt has them as well as Midway.
My brother had one on his Sendoro 300 win mag for a couple years waiting for enough money for a Nightforce. He shot some really good groups and it didn't ever seem to loose zero even with the recoil of the 300.

For just a pinch more you could get a used Falcon Menace w/ Front Focal Plane. Pretty good optics and positive clicks on adjustments. Side Focus and mil-line reticle. Seems like the obvious choice for a good scope on a budget.
Or any used Nikon with their reliability and great customer service.

I have a Falcon Menace and believe it to be pretty darn good considering all you get for the money. I didn't bring it up because 1/3 the price over his budget doesn't seem like a pinch to me.

No contest to argue about a new Falcon. But they can be had for $350 used if you're patient. I'm upgrading soon and I'll have one for sale for that price here in the next week or so. 4-14x44, ML16 Ret., mil/mil etc....

Yep the Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40 (target dot) would be the way to go. I also own the 4.5-14x40 (mil-dot). I like the 6-18 even with the 1/8 inch click. I can get 50.1 MOA up and 9 MOA below my zero. My 300WSM has 20MOA base and 10MOA in the rings (Burris signature Z rings). That is with a 200 yard zero. You actually get 6 MOA per rotation. Clicks are very repeatable to zero.

Another to look at would be the 5-15x40. It is reasonably priced. Glass is good and so far it is proving itself as a good scope.
