7mm vs. 300 Win Mag

I am new here to posting been reading a lot lately. I am going to be elk hunting in Wyoming quite a bit now that I am a resident there. I have been debating on which caliber to use. Basically what I have found from a lot of reading is it just comes down to preference of which rifle. The 300 Win Mag has a little more kick to it as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I found what I think is a good deal on a 7mm but not exactly sure so wanted to get an idea from everyone here. The guy says it's a savage model 112 in the 7mm REM MAG. Comes with 520 rounds and has less than 10 rounds through the gun. I was sort of set on a 300 Win Mag, but if this is a good deal I don't want to pass on it. He wants $1200. Here are a couple pictures I got from him.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: 7mm vs. 300 Win Mag

If it is a 7 rem mag, it will work. If it is a bigger 7mm all the better (7 STW, 7 RUM).

For Elk I would go with a 338 because of bullet weight, but the big 7s are more than enough to down a Elk with good shot placement and premium bullets 160 grains or larger.

Just my opinion

Welcome to LRH and enjoy!

Kinda hard to tell if it's good deal without selling price.

Haha my bad. 1200 for everything shipped. I'll update the first post as well. Thanks for the welcome.

It is pretty easy to change that rifle to a .300 WM if you find that the 7RM is not what you want.

Gunsmith not necessarily needed either. Just a new barrel and a few tools and some research.

This has to be the most hotly debated "VS" topic in all of LRH. I don't know the answer, but I have one possible compromise. A 7mm-300 win mag

How about for the rifle only?
