Hello to all, I have been reading the post and find this very interesting. I picked up both Long Range From Point Blank videos at Hart's and thought they were fantastic, especially the second one. I am very interested in getting a long range rifle, something that will eventually get me out to 800 yds on deer. My biggest obstacle is that I am left handed, not many factory left handed LR rifles. I don't thing the Accu-Mark is worth the price, not a condemation, just my opinion. I have a brand new Remington 700 VS in 308 that I am considering having rechambered to 300 WSM. I have another in 223 and really like the rifle. I know it would require bolt work, as well as rechambering, and Brownell's sells a new magazine box to make this work without opening up the feed rails. It looks as though I should be able to get 175gr to 200gr Matchkings to go fast enough to work at this distance. I really want to make sure this selection will work, be effective and accurate. I don't have a great deal of money to spend, prefer to keep it for my 3yr old boy!! Any input, suggestions, ideas would be very helpful and greatly appreciated, I want to do it right the first time!
nico, Not that I'm an expert, but by the time you get done with all the modifications on the VS you could of went out and bought yourself a Win. Coyote in 300WSM or if you want to stick with REM. a Sendero SF in 300RSAUM, almost anyway. If you rechamber that VS you don't have the right twist to shoot a 200gr MK, that requires 1in10. And acually with a 168 AMAX in your 308 you could have enough to take a deer down at almost 800yds, e-mail Darryl Cassell to see what he thinks, he's got thousands of posts on here, look around you'll find him. Take care, Jay I just remembered, your left handed, well you can always use your left hand to work the bolt, (over the top)Like the marines:Adapt and conform, or something to that effect.
Hey Jay, glad to see that you finally caught on! The magic words-Left Handed. I posted several complaints to many manufactures about this problem, and only Savage is listening. nbnico, some of the Weatherbys are good shooters, and all models come left handed. Mine shoots under 1/2 moa with just a little trigger work. It is an accumark, although i think a custom can get the job done, and make you happiest. Most like to start off with a Remmy 700 action. Good luck finding a used one for a good price! Like Jay said, talk to Darryl. Ian has some good shooters that didn't cost him an arm and a leg, but then, don't think his are lefties! You are in a state where a lot of these shooters are from, that in itself will be a big help, good luck.
