Re: .50 caliber short x .338

under 36 inch you make nothing that burm powder in the air , maximum magnum case ( over 100 grain ) need very long barrel to reach real amazing velocity at undersacla that the same effect in 7 STW or 300 RUM with 26 inch and 30 inch barrel

good shooting

His barrel was long enough (it was about 36"--I just don't remember) to get the velocity out of the case but when you put a stainless steel flash tube (which you need to get proper ignition) in the case it takes up powder room and makes the powder cooler, then you have to compress the powder to make up for it and he gained little if anything over the 338/416 Rigby case.

Re: .50 caliber short x .338

I agree with you that velocity in 338/50 is disppointed if you compare to the work you need to do ( forming , flash hole conversion .. ) and the finish price but fun is fun

to built some thing " new " I prefer to start with 408 case ( german made ) thatfar enought water capacity for 338 cal but far stronger case than 416 low pressure draw

good shooting
