Doesn't everybody have at least one .30-06 rifle?

Re: 338 WM and 30-06
I do not have a 338 WM, but I have had a 30-06 for a really long time. My 30-06 is a Ruger #1B with a fixed 4x Leupold Scope. It is on terrific rifle and cartridge. I shoot 165 gr. Partitions or Accubonds and love them. You cannot do any better than a 30-06!

Re: 338 WM and 30-06
30-06 has more gas than the .308 Winny, and im thinkin the .308 has more lead down range at long range than any other round out there.
The .338 win is just as capable of LR as the .300 win, little more drop but more energy to 700 yards depending on what bullet. I've shot to 500 yards with the 45-70 and let me tell you, theres alot more lob on that puppy than the .338 win. I built a really nice hunting wieght .338 win for my brother and its great.
so to answer your question, yes there are better things out there. but YES both the 06 and the .338 win are capable or LR.

Re: 338 WM and 30-06
Soldiers have been very successfully using 30-06 to lob bullets 1,000yds with peep sights for over a century
It's arguably one of the most popular rifle cartridges ever.
