180 Nosler BT?

I have been sampling several different bullets for my 300 win mag. The nosler BT was the most recent. I am finding that the OAL,when touching the lands, is much longer than the other bullets Ive tried(190 SMK and 180 SST). Is this a common occurance?

Re: 180 Nosler BT?

Howdy Samson,
I've been shooting Nosler BT's for seven years in my 300 WM because of the excellent accuracy. They do expand rapidly, so I would recommed lung shots!! My OAL is 3.58, which is .10 off lands. The 200 gr. Sierra MK goes 3.50 in my chamber, I have not tried SST's. I would venture a guess that the ogive controls the OAL, and will vary on different types of bullets. Now I would like some feed back from you, if you don't mind. I am ready to try the 190 SMK in my rifle. Cases are prepped and ready to go. I thought I would go with RE 22 as I have had good results with it with the Nosler BT and the 200 SMK. What kind of results did you get out of your rifle using 190 SMK's? Thank you, and keep punching center

Re: 180 Nosler BT?

meathead, you didnt ask for my opinion, but I have a litle background with the 180 BT.
My best results, came when I used RL 25 instead of RL 22...
The RL 22 is excellent with 150-165gr. bullets, in my 300WM, while the RL 25 performed well with the RL25..
I could not get the Nosler BT to group well, with my Sako 300WM, or my 300RUM.
The Partition actually performed much better in my 2 rifles.
I do seem to the exception, rather than the rule.
Others, have really liked the BT...I used the RL 25 example with the weight of bullet, rather than the maker..sakofan...thanks for letting me butt in..

Re: 180 Nosler BT?

Meathead,
I use R22 and am having fairly good success. I have been getting groups around.75 at 100 yds. I have not changed seating depth yet. ( next step ). I am going to try the R25 and see what happens. I have sampled Hodgen 4831 and IMR 4831 with no luck. I am not using a custom gun, but it is a mod 70 that has been accurized.
