I am looking for a light weight, packing rifle in a 300 WSM. I like what I see, but I was wondering if any one here has shot one or handled one. I would appriciate any other suggestions for a rifle. I have owned a couple stainless Howa's (not much luck there) maybe a Savage 16.

I want a stainless synthetic max 24 inch barrel.

I shoot a 300 SAUM (almost the same) in a Model 7. It has a 22" barrel. Recoil, to me, is not a problem at all with this round; however, the high pressures that short mags operate at drastically increases the muzzle blast. It took me a couple hundred rounds to get to where the blast does not effect me anymore. I can now put 60 rounds in one setting down range and have no headache from shooting it. It takes some adjustments, but IMO they are worth it. Imagine 300 Win Mag performance in a light-weight sporter, and thats a little below what I get with my SAUM. It makes hunting in tree climbers a joy because you can shoot just about whatever you see.
