Which remington 700SA chassis to buy?

I have been looking at a chassis for one of my remingtons, and I have found the choices to be difficult. So what is your opinion? Whisky 3, XLR, mcrees, AICS, other?

I like the looks of the whisky 3 and XLR the best, but have never handled any of them. I like pistol grips, but have fired and enjoyed a fair share of thumb holes as well. I don't know ANYBODY in my area that has one of these stocks.

So I guess what I am asking is within this price range of stocks I listed, which would YOU chose. This particular rifle will not be used for hunting, just long range shooting.

Re: Which remington 700SA chassis to buy?

I'm building a 700 223 project gun right now and I'll be using a chassis as well. I'm doing it just to have something different, really. I think I've decided on the XLR.

I handled an AICS last weekend and didn't really care for it. The trigger was too far aft for me. I think the new AI skins or Viperskins might help, but I can't get any response from AI or Victor, so they've fallen down on the list.

I prefer the look of the XLR over the W3 or the McRee. Everyone says the ergonomics of the XLR are like an AR, so that works for me. I just emailed XLR with a few questions, so we'll see if/when he responds.

I have heard that about the AICS. I don't really care for the looks of the Mcree at all, but I like the W3 and the XLR. I am definitely leaning toward that one, but have heard of a lot of people complaining about the scope mounting height.

I'm holding off buying scope rings until I decide on the chassis for sure. I understand the ballistic reasons to keep the scope low, but with the adjustable comb, I don't see much of a problem with having to use higher rings. I'm putting a 2.5-10x32 on it anyway, so I won't need crazy high rings like the guys running 56mm lenses do.

I have a 50mm objective on the scope I am planning on using with it. I have leupold low rings for it already, but It wouldn't kill me to buy new ones and save these for another time.

Keep em or sell them. Rings seem to be easy to sell if you price them right.

Re: Which remington 700SA chassis to buy?

Tyler,

I just bought an XLR for a 7mm mag and it is sweeeet! The quality is very high and XLR has excellent customer service. I can't tell you how impressive the chassis is and it is a pleasure to shoot. The system is so ajustable you can cusomize it to fit your style. I looked over everything I could find and the XLR in my opinion is the best thing out there, not to mention the price is very reasonable considering what you get. I have a 16X super sniper on a 700 action and decided to go with high rings, but mediums would have worked but not with flip up caps. I love the XLR!
