he should install a standard stud and mount the bipod to that, and reserve the flush cups for the sling.

    That's what I told him, but he doesn't want to mess up the lines of the stock when he doesn't need the bipod on it.....

    How sturdy and reliable are flush cups? I worry they could accidently pop out.

    Grovtec-they're as cheap as the Uncle Mikes. Go McMillan, Mil Spec...

    McMillan also has 1" and 1.5" loops that will work with their mil-spec flush cups.
