A3 style stock ok for a field gun?

I want to replace the plastic stock on my Rem. 700 7mm mag.. I was thinking of an A3 style, but was wondering if that would limit the practicality of the rifle. I shoot it prone alot and off the bench and maybe at closer ranges while utilizing a tree for a rest while in the timber. Heck, mabe even off hand. How do the A3 styles work for you guy's in non prone situations? I'm looking at Russo's for laminated wood or Manners in composite.

Re: A3 style stock ok for a field gun?

Just posted a reply to another thread on A5 vs. HTG here...
McMillan A5 or HTG

But the same answer applies here!

YES on the A3 [McM] as an all-round stock...at least it works for me!
The forend is not so wide as to cause a problem being in the hands all day but it adequatly rides the bags on a bench.

Just my 2 centavos worth...adjusted for inflation!

I like my own McM A3 and believe it is the most versatile design.

FWIW, I would avoid the heavier fills if it is to be used for hunting.
