Most of the locals believe that the gov't is vastly underestimating the number of wolves that are around. The gov't guys will say that an area does not have wolves, yet people have seen them and heard them. Wolves have been spotted (and one was even shot) not too far from Boise - about 400 miles (on the freeway) from Yellowstone, and some have been spotted in Eastern Oregon. Roy is absolutely right - they are spreading like fire.
A large chunk of the issue is that it is hard enough to get an elk in the first place (success rate is around 20%), and now hunters have the wolves to compete against [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]
