those horns seem awlful light colored for this time of year. is that common in this area?

The horns aren't quite as light as they look in the picture. Seems like the mulies that hang around this hay field do have lighter colored horns. Except for the buck on the right in the top picture, they are out of velvet.

They are white because there are no trees in Wyoming.... they all have blown to Colorado...
