Re: What Hand Gun do you use for Personal Protection??

I usually carry a 2" .357 in a Simply Rugged IWB holster. I handload 180grn XTP w/ H-110, makes a little bit of a fire ball but it works.

I just picked u a Para-Ordnance Wart Hog. It's a compact, Double Stack 1911 in .45acp. It's bark is almost as bad as it's bite Pretty stout recoil but manageable.

Re: What Hand Gun do you use for Personal Protection??

At my age the only 'pocket rocket' is a firearm.....lol

I'm not all that impressed with Para-Ordinance or Kel-Tec. One of the guys at the club has both and I've handled them and fired them (both). In my observation, both are rather sloppy compared to my Kimber or my Wilson but then you get what you pay for....

A Kimber costs 3 times what either costs and the Wilson. 5 times. The Para-Ordinance was especially sloppy in the slide and both triggers were clunky.

When I think of clunky triggers, I think of Ruger, the standard of clunky.

Speaking of triggers , that is one of my complaints with my Smith & Wesson M&P the trigger has kind of a swivel section in it. Reminds you of a toy . The other down fall to the model that I purchased is it has no thumb safety just the trigger/safety . I carry inside the waist (in the front) I dont keep one in the chamber for fear of blowing my 3rd leg off

Re: What Hand Gun do you use for Personal Protection??

The parts get smaller and the price gets more competitive and quality and feel go south.....

One of the gals at the club has one as well. It feels like a toy in my hands. No doubt lethal but it don't 'feel' like a firearm.

My Bond does, one reason I bought it.

No worry about blowing mine off, I don't use it anymore, well, not much anyway.

Just a conveinent drain now.....

I'd love to carry my double action 44 S&W long barrel. Problem is, it's not concealable. here in Michigan, you can open carry. Problem is, with a CCW, you can't.

Re: What Hand Gun do you use for Personal Protection??

My bedroom gun is a Ruger Super Redhawk with laser grips. Iíve got it loaded with 44 Special Speer Gold Dots since I would like to avoid going totally deaf should I need to use it. Also, backing off the full up 44 Mag loads reduces the number of walls it will go through. A fact Iím sure the neighbors would appreciate. With the laser grips it will also take the head off a grouse way faster than lining up sights.

My carry piece is a 45 Detonics Mark VI with 185 grain Golden Sabers. I know the guy (Sid) who designed the Detonics 45. I was hooked when he let me try his. It is amazing. You point your hand and you are on target. Iíve never seen another like it. I also love that it does NOT have the grip safety.

More to the point however, Sid designed it because, while on duty, he shot a guy through the heart with his service 38 Special and as the guy was going down, he squeezed off a couple rounds and took out Sidís knee. From that experience Sid determined he needed more knockdown power but didnít want to carry a full sized 1911 Ė thus the Detonics 45 was born. I carry it just right of my back pocket in a Bianchi #5 Blackwidow .45 Auto Colt Cmdr holster that is really quick. So, I can choose to give the bad guys my wallet or a surprise depending on the situation.

Iíve got smaller calibers but after seeing how badly Sid limped I wouldnít bring one to a gun fight if I had a choice.
