Re: Things you eat........Or not

You reminded me of something with your duck comment. we do a lot of duck hunting and if i saw someone in person eat a coot or hooded merganser i would probably just give them my wallet!!! Those suckers are the worst smelling, nastiest little creatures i have ever TRIED to clean!!

Me and the wife got married in Maui and our second night there we went to the hotel bar and grill and drowned a couple of cold ones and decided to order some sushi. It all tasted good and several more tall coldies were drank down and we decided to get more adventerous with the sushi. It was something that included eel, tuna, and God knows what else and it tasted great, THEN!!!

Next day we decided to try it again and I damn near spit beer on the waiter!!!!

All this talkin about food is makin me think about frying up my wifes pomeranian, sounds better than some of the stuff we have all talked about so far!!!!

Re: Things you eat........Or not

WEll in my early youth, we were at my grandmothers a LOT on weekends and holidays. My grandfather was killed back in the middle part of the depression and she brought up 5 boys and 5 girls on what they could grow gather or hunt. I can tell you this, when she set supper down, you ate it then and didn't ask or make faces. IF you left the table you could bet on seeing what ever was on your plate at the breakfast table good and cold the next morning. Trust me I learned to just shut up and clean my plate. She had recipies for just about everything under the sun, and the tradition was passed along to all of her childeren, and most of her grandchilderen.

I can however say, that out of it all, I guess boiled okra will just about do it for me. About the third trip back and fourth and it's all over.

For the most part the rest is all about how hungry you are and how much seasoning you have available to cover it up with.

Re: Things you eat........Or not

I'll try/eat anything once. But the worst thing I ever ate was muskrat. I trapped it for the hide, and said to my buddy, Hey, let's cook er up. So, we did. It tasted like bad fish or something. Kinda swampy.
Surprisingly though, possum is real good, just like rabbit or groundhog in my opinion.
Baked snapping turtle is a delicacy to me and my brother.

Mike, you're a lucky man. That's what I call a woman!

Okra, fried, OK. Anyother way, nah, especially in gumbo.

Re: Things you eat........Or not

Okra is great. Fried, boiled, pickled or any other way.
I have eaten or tried to eat many things in my life and have come to like a few of the odd ones.
Calf fries, turkey fries, lamb fries, pickled eggs, menudo (mexican cow stomach soup), anchovies, calamari, habanero peppers, etc.
The only thing I have eaten that I probably wont try again unless theres money involved is pickled pigs feet. The last one I tried still had little priclky hairs on it that poked your mouth when trying to gnaw off a chunk . NASTY!!
