Thumbs up Shipping Firearms

We all know that anyone can ship a firearm to himself in care of an outfitter for example. This is perfectly legal as long as the box or case is not opened and he does not take possession of it.
I recently found my self going on a trip, without an address to ship to. I was on the verge of cancelling rather than trust my gun to the airlines.
A firearm (long can be shipped to any post office. Addressed to yourself, general delivery. It will be held for thirty days.

Yes, and it is actually a Federal Law that they HAVE to send a long gun if requested to. They can not refuse a legal long gun transfer unless they know that there is ammunition inside the same package. So if UPS or FEDEX gives you garbage about shipping, take it to the Post office.

What is the deal on a Pistol, can you ship to yourself in the same way?
