Saw the AP picture of the houses destroyed in an picture taken from an airplane. Amazing. Looks like a big incinerator.
I'm not sure your guns would survive in fire proof safe. None are 'fire proof', just fire rated for a pre-determined amount of time, like 20 minutes or an hour and by that, it means the interior temperature won't exceed the combustion point of paper. That don't mean the contents don't get ruined, like wood or snot stocks or optics.
Best in case of eminent danger from fire is forget the wife and kids and get the guns out. The wife and kids come after.............
It's hot and dry here too. Reminds me of '88. I hear the farmers in Indiana around South Bend, are discing under corn and beans because they are dead from lack of moisture..... Won't be long here too.
