Remington 5R 300WM

Anyone have any experience with this rifle? I'm about ready to start a build on a 300 win mag, came across this in my local shop. Rem 300 win mg 5R, sendero contour non fluted, HS precision stock, stainless. I can pick this up for $900. My thinking is if it dosn't shoot I will already have a pretty good platform for my original build. Oh yeah it is threaded for a brake. What do you think? (not interested in savage so please don't suggest) Forgot to mention this is a new rifle.

Re: Remington 5R 300WM

I have a 700 5r in .308 and it's a solid shooter. I'm sure the 300WM would be just as good. $900 is a VERY good price. If you decide to pass on the purchase, would you mind sending me the gun store contact info? I may be interested

Picking it up Friday. New NF on the way from Bob Beck at EOL and we will see how it shoots.
Any suggestions on muzzle brake, it's threaded 5/8x24. Thinking JP what I'm afraid of though it probably won't index properly.

Re: Remington 5R 300WM

I have owned three Milspec's in 308. Been shooting them for several years, and still do. All three have identical chamber, throat dimensions and shoot .25-.5 MOA 5 shot groups, sometimes better with the same POI with the barrel hot or cold for at least 200 rounds before cleaning. All the gripes about Remington go out the window with these non-catalog rifles. Only need to tune the trigger or replace it with a Jewel. Fit, finish is excellent, good stock, and a barrel that will run with the customs. IMHO.

PS If neither you or Bad Dog go for this rifle, I'd be interested if you chose to pass the dealers name on. They run $1100 new if you can locate one.

Re: Remington 5R 300WM

Greyfox, The trigger is my biggest issue, I will probably put a jewel in it the day I pick it up. I have never shot a mil spec heard a lot of good things about them. I was not even aware they made them in a 300WM till I seen this sitting on the shelf. On the price he is selling to me at his cost because I help him out a lot and never charge him anything, so every now and then he shoots me a pretty good deal. Any suggestions on a load ie. powder I pretty much know I'm trying the berger 215's. thinking H1000 but not sure.

Nice, I think you'll be very happy with it. Sorry can't help with the brake
question, don't have one, but I have heard good things about JP Precision brakes.
