Remington 5-R Mil Spec.

I was in a local store and saw a Rem 700 .308 24" 5-R Mil Spec. It didn't have a normal PSS stock. It had a lighter forend beaver tail with two studs. What is it? Does Rem make the barrel?

Re: Remington 5-R Mil Spec.

Yes remington makes the barrel. This rifle is similar to the old VSSF. The differance in that it uses a 24" bbl vs a 26" and has no flutes. The twist is also 11.25 vs 12. The stock and action are the same as the old VSSF as well as the bbl contour. They were a limited production rifle by remington. In short it is a cross between an M24 and a VSSF.

Hope that helps

My answer to this is. The only reason is to make the 7 RM look good. There is no other reason.

Re: Remington 5-R Mil Spec.

Mike Rock had the Army contract for barrels but when he could not keep up with demand- Remington bought it and started make a 5R hammer forged barrel- some shot okay but no where near as good as the real thing from Rock.
