Re: raccoon problem

BigNGreen is RIGHT ON for the coons. Use good legholds with swiveled chains. The conibears work well also. Good luck.

Because they crawl under the porch, die and stink for a month.

Yup its a fun, but it is quite difficult to shoot them. I am still struggling to shoot at least a single coon.

Re: raccoon problem

they are almost as easy to trap as stray cats. any trap will work. Live traps are pretty fool proof, leg holds, snares and conibares all work well too. I prefer live traps that way if you get the neighbors small dog or cat you dont kill it and get in trouble.

Re: raccoon problem

The trick is to shoot them at night! Nothing like dressing up like a nut and making your family think you have finally gone overboard than tactical coon hunting!

I have had good luck with live traps as well. I saw there were some skunk related posts too. My neighbor has a good method. He puts a heavy tarp over the trap (approach sloooooowly). After about ten minutes to let the skunk calm down, he drives his quad out to the trap, hooks up a hose to the exhaust, and slips it under the tarp. Dead skunk, no spray. I wouldn't recommend eating them if killed this way (to all of you posters on the "Ground Hog Recipe" thread).
