Mildot Ranging

Can someone explain the Mildot Ranging Formula that is in yards not meters to an Idiot like myself. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] I dont know if I am having a mental block but from what I have read on it this morning my #'s are not adding up. Background:

1 mil = 3.6 inches at 100 yards.

100 (yards) / 3.6 (inches) = 27.77 (ratio)

A 72 inch tall man standing 200 yards away is 10 mil tall.

To use the mil ranging formula you need target size (in inches) and the number of mils the target subtends.

Our 6 ft man (72 inches) subtends 10 mils.

72 / 10 = 7.2

7.2 x 27.77 = 199.94 yards away

So, size of target in inches / number of mils subtended equals the number of inches between the mildots.

We then take the number of inches between the mildots for the target we just measured and ratio that back to 100 yards using the 3.6" per Mil @ 100 yard standard value of 27.77.

The other formula is ( just so you'll have it )
Height of target in yards X 1000 divided by height of target in mils

2 (72 inches) yards X 1000 = 2000
Divided by 10(mils) = 200

size of target in yards x 1000 divided by MIL reading or size of target in inches x 27.778 divided by MILreading =range yards or size of target in inches x 25.4 divided by MILreading = range in meters

Why not get a Mil Dot Master and forget the formulas. I bought mine about three weeks ago and love it. just my two cents.

Multiply 27.8 by target height in inches and divide by number of mils. Example: 27.8 x 18" = 500.4 divided by 1.5 mils = 333.6 yds. Easy
