Let's Design the Ultimate Soft Gun Case for a Long Range Rifle
I have been discussing this idea with a Canadian company that makes very good quality gun cases, good enough that our military uses them for their drag bags for the current issue .338 Lapua sniper rifle. Here are some basics I would like to see in a really good, rugged gun case.
Appreciate some suggestions and idea, this might be a chance to have a Long Range Hunting group buy that would provide a heck of a case at a good price.
GUN CASE INFO
.. Velcro vs heavy zippers - my preference is the heaviest metal zipper available but good quality velcro is also handy. Super heavy plastic zipper is also a great way to go, might be more self-healing
.. Large over-flap to keep dirt etc out of zipper
.. Possible plastic sheets to re-enforce side walls
.. Wrap-around handles
.. Shoulder strap should be oversized, go well past ends for securement
.. Option to carry flat to back like a drag-bag - would require back-straps
.. Cleaning rod tube or holder along the hinged area inside
.. Must accommodate a Harris bipod and scopes with large objectives and turrets
.. Possibly fit into a hard case for airline travel
.. Location and number of pockets, some specific as to hold spotting scope, laser, field notebook, plastic window for drop-chart?
.. Ammo holder inside or specific pocket, maybe a five round strip on outside?
..scope sits upright, design of case indicates which way is UP
.. Leather pocket or re-enforcement for muzzle, a guard to prevent damage and pushing through the end
.. Variety of lengths, include up to 30”+ for long range rifles with brakes
.. Leather end tether for hanging the case when not in use
.. Possible fold and snap to turn case into a field shooting rest?
