i have only just registered and thought that i should say hello.
i was also after some advice on a varmint rifle, with enought knockdown power to stop small to medium sized pigs (i was thinking perhaps a .243, or 22-250 but this might be a bit light) . any advice would be greatly apreciated.
...definitely go with the .243 over the .22-250, if you're going to shoot pigs...just be sure to go with 10" twist for the heavier bullets on pigs and longer range on the varmints... should be a "blast"
We have taken quite a few hogs with 22-250's and 220 Swift's. Stick to heavy bullets and they should do fine. Good hunting bullets in a big 6 mm case are very good for hogs at any reasonable range. Most hog guides I know prefer a hunter show up with a .243 they can shoot than a 375 they they can't shoot at all.
