Re: If you could move anywhere in the US where would you go?

I just found this thread, and it is a great read, and funny!

I have lived in Nebraska all of my life, and I love this state desperately, but it just doesn't have much to offer in the way of big game hunting. There are a lot of deer, but drawing an elk tag is next to impossible. I passed up the opportunity to move to Wyoming this year. I was offered a teaching position in Hanna, but the wife was not impressed with the idea of moving away from her family.

If momma ain't happy, ain't no one happy, so we stayed here.

I would like to move to Wyoming or Montana. I would be interested in trying out Texas as well. But, if I ever could get my wife to leave I would probably go to Alaska. There is something about that state that has always intrigued the hell out of me (probably the hunting ). Also, Alaska takes damn good care of their teachers, as does Wyoming and Texas.

Maybe someday I will get to move to a state with Elk and Moose, I hope. At least Nebraska is still a red state, but I can't say for how long as Lincoln and Omaha are becoming more and more liberal.

My brother in law lives in Alaska, I think I need a change from the cold for a while. TX is looking like the place to be for me and the wife right now.

A guy from TX just bought Dana Ranch in Cascade, MT --- 65,000 acres for $45M ... that's under $700 an acre. Dana Ranch was open for public hunting as part of the BMA and it has close to 1000 elk in the herd with abundant trophy muley and whitetail deer in the property. I hope the new owner stays with the BMA.

MT has over 60 million acres (state, federal, DNRC, national forest, WMAs, BLMs/BORs, etc) available for public hunting for a population of 1,005,141 (Jan 2012 census bureau).

    Well...

It's looking more and more like Wyoming fellers..

I'm liking the Wapiti valley area.

Kinda like what Colorado USED to be like.

I was born and grew up in MS.. after high school i got a job as a field tech for Kuhlman Electric (ABB) and traveled all over the 48 states working. Installing and testing power transformers. For 5 years i had been to every state except Kali and Utah. Saw a bunch of beautiful country with critter and such.

After that was all said and done id pick MS. Some of WY was awesome since i like middle of nowhere secluded areas. Even south Daktoa was nice.
