How To Post A Picture

When posting a picture on long range hunting you first need to have the picture saved somewhere on your hard drive. You also need to know the location of this picture so you can easily go to it when transferring it to a hosting site.

Next you need to sign up for a hosting site. This is a site on the web that will host or store your picture for future viewing. I use Photobucket. It’s easy to sign up, you just follow the instructions and you will then have an account and will have a screen where you can see all of the pictures you have uploaded to Photobucket. Other hosting sites work similarly but the end result is still the same.

Remember that very large pictures tend to cause problems with people that will be viewing what you have posted. You know how it can be irritating to have to scroll left and right because someone has posted a picture that is too large. You can resize your pictures and save them on your hard drive before uploading them to Photobucket or any other hosting site. On long range hunting, keep your images under 100K and 600 pixels wide.

One program that is very easy to use for resizing pictures is InfranView. You can find it here: IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide . There are other similar programs or Windows power tools that do the same thing. Just experiment and you will find the size that works best. You will be able to see the results of your picture sizing when you preview your picture and thread later on. If it’s too big in the preview you can easily resize it on your hard drive and the upload the resized version. Now on to the good stuff.

Before you can post any pictures you first need them hosted somewhere. This will explain things using Photobucket. When you have signed up and registered on Photobucket and want to upload a picture to Photobucket you will see this screen. There are 3 boxes with the word “browse” beside them. This is where you will select the picture you have saved on your hard drive.



Click on the top “browse” and you will then see this screen where you will be allowed to go to the picture you have saved and select it for uploading. Click on the picture you want to upload and it will be put into the File Name box. Click on the “Open” button and the location of the picture will transfer to the area where the “Browse” buttons are.



You will then see this screen that shows the picture has been selected and that Photobucket is ready to upload it.


Click on the “Upload” button and the picture will then be uploaded to Photobucket from your hard drive location and will be viewable by you. When the upload is done the picture will show in your album like this screen shot.


To post a picture on long range hunting you need to start a new thread or a reply. You will then see this screen. This is what you see when you use the WYSIWYG editor. You can change the editor in your profile or in the upper right hand corner of this screen where you see the two A’s in the box. Notice the red circle around the icon. This is the icon you click on to start your picture posting.


In the screen shot of your picture that is hosted on Photobucket, notice the “Direct Link” box. Put your cursor on that box and right click. Click on save and you now have the location of the picture on Photobucket saved.

Click on the Picture icon and you will then see this screen.

Put your cursor in the box where is says to Please enter the URL of your image. Right click and then click on paste. You will then see this screen shot.



You have now entered the web address of the picture that is hosted on Photobucket into the long range hunting thread that you are starting. Click on OK and you will then see this screen shot.



When you see this picture in your editing box you know that it has been properly saved on Photobucket and that you have properly entered the required info into your editing area for the thread you are starting.

Then click on the “preview post” button just below the above picture and you will then preview your picture and thread. If you include any text before or after the picture it will also show up. You can enter multiple pictures just by following the above steps. This is what the preview will look like.



If you want to make any changes or deletions you can easily do it in the editing area. Now is the time to make any changes, before you submit it. It’s in this screen where you will see exactly what will be posted and viewed by others. If you are happy with the looks of the picture and any text that you have added you can then click on the “submit new thread” button and your thread with the picture will be posted on long range hunting.

even though the page now shows up when i click insert image nothing shows up therefore i still have to post a link to image,in the posting rules it says i can not post attatchments is this the reason i am having problems

Need Help when I click on the icon to upload a picture all it does is go bluoop and it doesn't open the box to put the photo bucket link in.
I have read the how to post a picture thread and fully understand it but it doesn't work.

I posted a gun for sale but can't put the pictures with it.

An hour later;

I finally figured out if you right click on the pic in photo bucket that you made bigger and click copy and then just paste it in your thread and it worked. Does that make sense, all I know is it worked for me.

About 99.9% of the time the icon works for me but there has been a couple of times when it didn't and then the direct past worked. Don't really know why but sometimes it gets an attitude and the icon just doesn't want to work.
