Re: Free recoil why why why?

I should have taken a picture the other day, a guy at the range made his own 2x4 wooden lead sled.

Re: Free recoil why why why?

I completely agree with you on the led sled. I do use one time to time but just for a quick rest. I don't know why anyone would strap their rifle down. As for the idiots at the range. Lucky for me I don't think I've ever been to a range. I just step outside to shoot. However I do get a lot of newbie hunter at my range saying the same stuff and making excuses when they can't hit paper with their rifle then I pick it up and hit center target. Some even get offended. Oh well what can ya do.

Almost forgot my favorite guys are the ones that show up with the brand new rifle never been fired and say "the guy at the store said it was dead on". That drives me nuts. Shoot your own weapon

That sounds to me like a Cabelas fairytale.....

"It's boresighted and you are on". On what? The side of a barn at 50 feet?

Candidly, I spend a bit of time in Cabelas in as much as I live in walking distance from the Michigan store so I see all kinds of intersting and less interesting people in there.

While I'm not any advocate of gun control, I can see a need. Some of the people in there, at the gun counter, perusing firearms, scare the bejesus out of me......

Guys strap their pencil thin barreled factory files into this thing, putting pressure down on the barrel and proceed to fire an entire box of ammo as fast as they can spot their hits at 100 yards.
What??? You mean they are not prone off the bipod and rear bag??? Silly boys, when will they learn??

That is how I sight mine in

LS and the like do have their place but for know that your rifle is on for you nothing replaces shooting it from the position that your going to take your toughest shot from. It never cease to amaze me that somebody really believes that strapping their rifle to some heavy apparatus means anything when they shoulder that rifle, then they just can't figure why their poi isn't the same so they put it back onto the apparatus.

Last time I was out at the range with my daughter, this group of young guys shows up, one with a BR rifle. They start shooting at the 12" gongs out to 400yrds, getting maybe 1 out of 4-5 hits. I had to chuckle when they realized she's shooting gatorade bottles at the same distance and hitting them 4 out of 5 with a stock savage in 7mm-08. When I went to shoot she says "Dad shoot the gong way out there, the last one" (it's at 800). Damn they look deflated when the ding drifted back on the first round, never did come ask though, I was hoping they would.

Hunter sight in day, good god that's a scary event, I stay away.

I've given up on trying to advise people though, been my experience when you start pointing out the things that will actually make somebody a better shot, you invariably also point out the things that they are doing wrong, and that tends to poke holes in their pride (it's hard to sugar coat it) so they get pissed about it and stop listening, even though they want to do the things they see pretty decent shots doing, they just can't seem to get past the idea that their not quite the experts they believe they are. The exception I've found to this is with the fairer sex, women and girls seem to be a lot better at setting their pride aside then men and boys on average.
