AR 500 Steel and Steel Core/Armor Piercing or 50 BMG
I am looking for information on AR 500 plate steel and how robust it is for handling steel core /AP type ammo or 50 bmg rounds. It appears to perform well on all rifle ammo but I have buddies whom want to try some old steel core/ap rounds on my plate (1/2 in). Feedback is appreciated before I let them shoot at it and ruin my target. Also will it stop a standard 50 bmg.
Re: AR 500 Steel and Steel Core/Armor Piercing or 50 BMG
Just googling around, it looks like .308 AP will penetrate 0.28" of armor plate at 300M and 0.20" at 500M. .50 AP will go through 0.75" at 500M and 0.39" at 1200M.

Thanks for the replies. I assume that the "steel slivers" are the steel core remanents which have bonded to the plate steel and thus "stick out like porcupine needles".
