338 EDGE vs. 735 YD. PLATE

Went to do some doping and distant group testing on my new 338 EDGE prior to teaching a Long Range Hunting class on Saturday. I needed to replace a plate for the class and wanted get a feel for the new EDGE. I have had several, it seems everytime I get one dialed in and running really good someone comes along and needs it worse than I do. I confirmed my 100 yd zero with 1 shot and dialed up for the plate, the shots were 735 yards, uphill 14 degrees at the 10" plate. The plate is 3/4" T1 and as you can see the craters went about 1/4" deep or so. I hiked up the hill to switch plates and thought it was a good enough group it deserved a photo. Thought you guys might like it.

With groups like that I'm surprised there arn't fist fights to try to jump ahead in the line-up to buy one of your Edges. I'll be thrilled if my 338/378 shoots 1/3 as good as that.

Shawn,if you dont mind me asking, what do you usually cut the neck and leade dimensions to when you do one of these?

Awsome group and a sweet looking rig.
What the hell made the craters in the squar plate in the bottom right hand corner 50bmg?

Hey Shawn , can your Edge be built on a LA Winchester M-70 pushfeed? I know that the mag box isin't as long as the extended ones from Wyatts. Whats the OAL of the Edge with a 300gr SMK?

Re: 338 EDGE vs. 735 YD. PLATE

JD,

The lower inset in the photo is a close up of one of the craters of the group you see in the plate. If memory serves me correctly it is the top impact. Like I said this was fairly impressive performance. If you look closly you will see some hits around the 3 shot group, these slight blackened marks are hits from my 260 it did little more than knock some paint off. There is just no substitute for horsepower. I love the 338 EDGE's but am excited to get building the hunting weight 338 Allen Mags for 3 of my customers. I hope they will give this kind of accuracy. If you can couple accuracy like this and an extra 400 fps what is not to like.
