Lightbulb $2 scope level.

All,

Growing up a shade tree mechanic and fixing more than my fair share of stuff with duct tape and baling wire, I always have my eyes open for 'efficient' ways to do things.

After receiving my picatinny mount $69 scope level for the 338AM Kirby is building for me, I decided I NEEDED a level on my old Rem 700 7RM. One day I'm at Walmart and notice a $2 picture frame hanger that has a small bubble level on it. Well, 10 minutes and a couple drops of Gorilla glue, and that level was attached to the inside of the Butler Creek flip up scope cap. I have only been using it this summer, but it works great.

I just roughed up the back of the level and glued it on (making sure it was horizontal). I glued it on with the scope cap off of the scope. After it was dry, I put the rifle in a vise and leveled it, then put the scope cap on and leveled it. I then marked the scope and cap with a lead pencil, so I can easily verify that everything stays square.

The one thing I haven't checked yet, is what happens when it freezes? :-0

How would we get thru life...

AJ,

Your my kinda man. Welcome to the wacky world of Buffalobob, royinidaho and Jimm.

I how have the courage to post a pick of mine. Mounted on a 270AM. Its an unused rear scope ring with a groove milled to hold the gorilla glued level bubble holder thingie. I don't use scope caps on the AM but will use your idea for my 338 RUM carry gun.

Isn't it sweet to walk thru stores eyeing things that can be used for things that nobody but you can dream up.

""The one thing I haven't checked yet, is what happens when it freezes? :-0""

That's why it's green like the anti-freeze in your truck.

It looks like it is very close to the glass ? when the cap is closed-is it?

Roy ,""Isn't it sweet to walk thru stores eyeing things that can be used for things that nobody but you can dream up.""

I do the same thing.

It is pretty close to the glass, but it doesn't touch.

Now that's some good company! You made my day.

The only thing about the scope cap bubble, it will only work on scopes that don't turn there. Works good on Leupold, not so good on Nightforce.

It is sweet, but my wife (and others) consistently believe I'm crazy.
