Wood stocks

I want to build a lightweight Savage and there is really a dearth of stocks available for this action. None of the lightweight synthetic stocks I would go to for a Remington are available for a Savage short action.

The best option I have heard is to use the birch Savage stock and refinish/modify it as desired; the weights I have seen online indicate this is a really light stock.

I know synthetics are preferred for obvious reasons but I just can't find a light option to go with here. If I bed the action well, would this work ok as a hunting rig for 800-900 yds (300 WSM)?

Re: Wood stocks

I don't know how light a guy could get a wood laminate, but you can hollow out the butt stock a little. I'm going with the Stocky's Stock new LR laminate you might take a look at it, http://www.stockysstocks.com/servlet/the-502/*NEW!*-Bobby-Hart-Long/Detail
