Why no 270-08 ?

With a 243 a guy could neck up pretty easy, or a 308 you could neck down.

With all the talk about kid/women friendly cartridges I don't know why no one has done this.
Is there a reason that there isn't any real 308 parent case necked to 277?

I mean we've got it bracketed on both sides with the 243, & 7-08. Then we've got the 308, & 338 Fed, so why no 270 wildcat?
Seems to me like it'd be the one to benefit as far as case volume, & bullet wt goes.
Anybody got any idea?
I'm kinda brainstorming for a build. Now, Im a very opinionated person, so Don't take it personally, but I'm not a fan of any 6.5, or 7mm in any configuration so that's out. The 338Fed just seem like a ballistic nightmare. And the 308Win frankly bores me to death. So, that leaves me with the 243. Ok, i know it'll do the job, but so will the others I've already mentioned. It just doesn't strike me as anything but a big coyote gun. Ya ya I know a ton of ladies who've killed Elk with them too (not impressed).

Please understand I'm not "bashing" anyone's favorite cartridges here. I'm also fully aware of the ballistic advantages of the 6.5, & 7mm's on paper. I don't need a tutorial on it. I just want something different, for my wife & daughter.
I'm a Huge 270, 30, & 338 fan in most configurations. They perform well on the critters we hunt in "out west". Plain & simple. But, For me, the 308Win case capacity alone rules out the 30, & 338 as ballistic dog turds, and the 243 (to me) is simply a cross over gun from varmint to thin skinned game.
I've got an old Model-70 in 243 that'd be a great platform for a build, so Why not a 270-08?

Seems like a fair amount of people have done it judging by my google results...sounds cool. Wonder how it would perform with 110s and 130s. I will have to look into it.

Re: Why no 270-08 ?

Why not just go with a .25 Souper? Wicked little caliber. Essentially a .257-308 Win, is basically what it is.

.25-08 (.25 Souper)

Recoil is virtually non-existant, potent, and capable.

You can buy dies for it...Special order from Midway & you can have them in 1 month to your door.

RCBS 2-Die Set 25 Souper (25-308 Winchester)

This caliber is intriguing me.....Might have to go find me a cheap 700 .308 Win and build one of these....

You can use Lapua .308 Win brass, I already have thousands of 210 primers, powder, and .257 caliber bullets....

Hmmmmmm......

Re: Why no 270-08 ?

I was thinking of using 130-140 gr bullets with it.
After a few searches it seems a 130 at 2900-3000 is very achievable.
It's also a run of the mill velocity with an average-mid load for a 270Win with a 130gr bullet. (Tho the 270 Win can be loaded quite a bit hotter)

Next Question:
How much actual difference in recoil between the 270-08 & the 270 Win?
A 270-08 with a 130gr bullet @ say 2900- 2950ish fps, with 46ish gr. of powder.
Or
A 270Win with a 130 gr bullet @ same speed but with 10-12 more grains of powder?

I'm confused why this didn't catch on a long time ago
Any thoughts?

Only because I have a huge fondness for 270's, & was thinking of launching 130-140gr bullets.

Same here as far as intriguing. I Love the Lapua brass idea too!
Ya I've got powder, primers, & bullets. Brass wouldn't be too hard to score being a .308

Re: Why no 270-08 ?

IMO the differences in your suggestion vs. the 7mm-08 make it almost not worth talking about. I have a 270win and a 7-08 and the ballistics are so close. You've got to get out past 400 yrds before it even matters (for hunting scenarios). Now...there is more heavy bullet options in the .284 and you can actually make a good LR target rig on the 7-08 if you want.

Recoil wise, IMO my 7-08 kicks a little less and it weighs less than the 270 I own. The 7-08 with a 160+grain bullets recoil is about the same as the 270 with a 140.

Also, if I wanted more punch I'd go with a 284win or the 7saum.

My two bits...
