What powder for 200gr Accubond in .300 Win mag?

I have not had the best luck with the orginal bullet I had intended to use for elk (180 partition). Best groups average around the 1.5" mark. I can shoot 190 MK's under an inch and was thinking of trying some 200gr Accubonds for a new hunting bullet. I had my best luck with both the 180's and 190's with R-22 (the slowest powder I have on hand). Is H 1000 or R-25 too slow for a .300 Win mag and 200gr bullets? My barrel length is 26". Thanks-Duff

Out of my 300 WinMag I've had the best groups with R22 and H1000. For the 200 Accubond I would definitely try H1000.

Duff, I'll have to agree with Wayne Reloader 22 and H1000. My WM prefers the RE22 just a tad better.

Duff, I posted this very question about 2 weeks back on a couple different sites, about 15 out of 20 responses recommended 71gr R22 with the 200gr Accubond. I loaded up a bunch of 200gr Accubonds and headed for the range, in my case I ended up dropping down to 70.6gr R22 .008 off the lands which allowed me to shoot easily under 1". I will fine tune this load and my reloading process this will be my hunting load. I also really liked the performance of 168gr TSX bullets with R19 .025 off the lands in my WarBird so I tried it in my Sako Hunter 75. I went over the data and guesstimated 73.4gr R19 and tried .025 off the lands, this load allowed me to shoot 1/2". The best thing I noticed about these 2 loads is that I can switch back and forth between the Accubonds and TSX without having to adjust my scope! Good Luck! [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

I have tried Retumbo with that 200gr. bullet. Accuracy was OK, no chrony, but I bet she was smoking!!!...sakofan..

Great! thanks for the respondses. Are you guys able to load that close to the lands and still run your ammo through the magazine? I've been pretty spoiled with most of my rifles-most were throated short enough were this wasn't a problem, but this .300 Win has a long enough throat to shoot about a 300 grain bullet [img]images/icons/rolleyes.gif[/img] I'll definately give the R-22 a try and buy some H 1000. I have a Sako Hunter 75 24" barrel and thankfuly the ammo will feed through the magazine even all the way out to the lands. [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]
