Twist rate ?
What is the optimum twist rate for a 300 Winchester Magnum with a 26" barrel shooting 150-168 grain bullets? Thanks

Re: Twist rate ?
a 1-12" twist will stabilize those bullet weights, but a 1-10 is probablly better as it will also stabilize these bullet weights and leaves the option of shooting heavier bullets in the 180-220g range. With a 30cal that has that much case capacity, you never want to limit yourself to lighter weight bullets.
Many .308 Win rifles have 1-12" twist bbls, but they are severly limited in possibilities.

I would also recomend the 1 in 10 twist.

+1 here too!
1:10" will stabilise all bullet weights in 30cal without problems.

Another vote for 1:10. I also have one in 1:11 that stabilizes 150-210g bullets very well. Good luck!

Re: Twist rate ?
Optimum twist for 150-168's will be 1-13x. If you think you will ever shoot anything heavier, then go tighter (12x for 180's and 190's, 11x for 200, 210's and up to the 220 and 10x for the 240). If you KNOW all you ever want is up to 168, go with what is optimum which is 13x. I am one that believes in spinning a bullet to a point of proper stability and nothing to little more. My target SF is 1.4-1.75. This offers the best accuracy, minimizes spin drift and maximizes long term BC potential. Most shooters agree that up to 2.0 is OK. Throw a 10x in that 300 and shoot 168's you will be approaching 3.0. Keep the 10x for the 220 or 240's.

Re: Twist rate ?
Thats what I'm looking for. Optimum. I was curious if 1 in 10 was a liberal twist rate for a wider selection of bullet weights. Thanks to all who replied.
