Twist rate for 220gr Sierra Matchking in 300 RUM

Hello, this will be my first post I have a Remington 700P in 300 RUM, with a 26" heavy barrel, 1 in 10 twist. Will the 220 gr. Sierra matchking stablize properly with this twist rate? I get consistant 1/2" 5 shot groups at 100 yards with the bullet, but 1" to 1.5" groups at 200 yards. Just wondering if the bullet is not stabalizing properly. Thanks for the info.

Your 1 in 10 twist is fine for the 220 SMK. I shoot the 240 SMK out of my 29" barrel and it's also a 1 in 10 twist. Sometimes a good load at 100yds won't necessarily shoot as well at longer range.

Thanks Wayne for the advice. I will try a different load at 200 yards and see how it works at 100. Should I speed the velocity up? Or bring it back down? I use a charge of 89.5 gr of Retumbo with a Fed Gold Match Large Rifle Mag primer.

Try the 200 SMK. It is widely known as the most accurate/most uniform bullet sierra makes for 30 cals.

Ok, thanks. I was thinking of trying the 200 gr MK to see how they work. If a load shoots good at 200 yards, should it also shoot good at 100 yards? Thanks.

I am not all that familiar with "Great" groupings at 200 yards plus. 1.5" groups at 200 yards doesn't "appear" all that great on paper. Forgive my ignorance, but what is the minimum group size to be considered "great" at 200 yards - I am quite new to the sport of long range shooting
