Similar BCs but different weight and/or caliber

It's my understanding that if you launch two bullets at the same velocity and those two bullets share a common BC they will have very similar drop and wind drift characteristics regardless of the bullet weight and caliber differences.

More graphically, a 55 grain .223 bullet with a BC of .300 and a 250 grain .338 caliber bullet with a BC of .300 both launched at 3000 fps will have nearly identical drop and wind deflection characteristics.

Is this essentially true?

Dave,

Yes, it is essentially true. Ballistically speaking they will have identical drop and drift. In practice they will present slightly different cross-sections to the wind, or a different sail, and the actual drift is likely to be slightly different.

Warren

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't give much thought to the sail area concept in wind drift so thanks for the new additional info.
