Re: Short action build need help

Jeff

The 325 WSM is a .323 (8 mm) and the largest bullet for 8mm is around 200gr
in loaded factory ammo.

If you have a 338 WSM made you have a better selection of bullets.

In a short action you are somewhat limited to case capicity and the WSM's
are about optimum.

The 325 WSM has very good balistics and is worth looking at .

PS; I looked and Woodledge,Sierra and swift make 220gr bullets in .323 (8mm).

Re: Short action build need help

how about a 375 caliber? 375WSM....barnes makes a 235 gr TSX. that would be a hammer!

actually my pick would be a 338wsm. a 185 or 210TSX would be a short bullet and in a short action, you're gonna need all the help you can get.

+1 338WSM if it's going to be a repeater.

Otherwise, pick as big of a .338 as you want up to 338 Edge.

Re: Short action build need help

you would have to pull the bolt on a magnum length round.... may not even be that easy to load with an edge length round and the bolt in.

My short action savage ejects an empty 338 Edge very well and so will a SA Remington. However, I just verified that I can't put a loaded 338 Edge round into the SA Remington, as the port is a little shorter than on the Savage.

Edited: The Remington I tried to put the Edge round is a 243. The round was close to clearing the port, maybe a larger chamber would give it the extra few thou to load. Hopefully someone has a larger short action chambering that they could test.
