Re: Shaner\'s 338 Snipe-Tac, finished pics
I did some more load testing today on the Beast. I tried some of the WC872 cannon powder, it seems to perform well.
I started with 140grns for fire forming with 300 sierra's, speed averaged 3100fps, groupings were decent for the forming process. I then loaded up some formed cases starting at 142grns the speed bumped up to 3200fps for three shot groups. Next load was 144grns about 3250 on ave.
The last three shot group was 146grns, speed was 3300fps ave. The last grouping was the best of the three, a nice tight cloverleaf. The wind had picked up and my bench was shaking dramaticly. I cleaned the bbl after the first 6 shots, i wanted to see how well the Moly break in method had worked (was recomended by Mike Rock) There was very little seen copper in the bbl, i washed it with some hoppes and then some shooters choice, not much blue and a few copper flecks was on the patch. It was dirty from the WC872 powder. I ran several dry patches through and was very clean. I tried a little wipe out to see if any copper was left, no visible signs of blue. Looks like the bbl break in is done. I want to try some 350grn bullets this weekend as the baby will be sent to her new home next week.
