The 6.5/.284 is a great round capable of killing these animals at 1000 yds. or more if hit in the vitals. Barrel life is probably in the 2500 round area depending on the load etc. and also depending on whether you are talking bench rest accuracy or something less. The STW is an entirely different matter! I don't know much about them but they are way over bore capacity and I would expect a MUCH shorter barrel life than the .284 version. If you are shooting long range i.e. 500 yds and more, I would use the bergers over the accubonds. Get the 6.5/284!!!.......Rich
Anyone seen any Savage literature or info on this LRH. What calibers will it be offered in and is there a retail price on them as of yet. I heard rumor that some gun shops here in Montana have had them in stock already - any info would be appreciated as I would like to try one. I can find nothing on the Savage web site. Thanks in advance.
Just 500-600 maybe(under perfect conditions of course).
I just wondered about KE level past 500 yards.
I shoot a .260AI with 25" barrel. (Fairly close to the 6.5/.284.) I send 140gr A-Max's at 3,013fps. That gives over 1,500 ft/lbs at 600 yards and it has about 1,000 ft/lbs at 950 yards. You should be able to get this or better from your rifle.
