Ruger American

So i recently was at my local shop and he had a bunch of ruger americans with blue digital camo stocks for $250 nib. I couldnt pass the deal so i bought one in a 270win. Does anybody have any experience with the americans at all? This rifle is just pretty much gonna be a beater rifle for me but for the price it seems pretty solid.

For $250 you will love that rifle. I've shot one in a 308 and it was a great little budget rifle. I've wanted to buy one in 223 for a truck gun but just haven't got around to picking one up yet.

Re: Ruger American

My brother just picked up an '06 ruger american. Shot well with factories on sight in; he'll get serious with it in a few weeks when the weather's better.

Re: Ruger American

you will love it!! the price, weight, are great, but the accuracy is outstanding. i have a 308, and just picked up a 223. the 223 is a 8 twist so i loaded up some 69 grain Sierra HPBTs over 24 grains of Varget, my 7th 8th and 9th shots grouped at 0.216 in. what else do you want from any gun, especially one for under $400 with a scope.

Re: Ruger American

A friend bought one in .243 for his son. He had it right around 1" for 3 shots at 100 yds with little trouble. Combined technology 95gr, don't remember powder. Trigger wasn't bad either. Good value.

Re: Ruger American

I bought one in 30.06 and topped it with a Vortex scope. It's a good shooter at a beater price!

Mine shoots well for maybe 3 or 4 shots but only when cool. Once it heats up I get some fliers at the range. But if I need more than 2 shots at an Elk, I may need more practice at the range anyway.

YouTube videos confirm my results about the heat issues and accuracy with the American Rifle but I would recommend it for the price for sure.

Re: Ruger American

I looked at one for a deer rifle but I was concerned about the trigger. Ruger is know for poor triggers, I have a couple that needed serious trigger work to get to work properly.
